For one, I doubt just anyone can walk in and find out who is on free school lunch program. Two, I doubt the guy working at the elevator knows who on free lunch and who isn't.

I was in grade school in the late 80's. At that time you got a different colored lunch card depending upon whether you paid, were reduced price or got free lunch. They changed that while I was still there, probably to go to a simpler system, but it also allowed more privacy. I do not think the situation in question is right, IF it is true, but I don't know the guys finances either. Lots of people spend money on fancy wheels or other frivolous things and can't hardly keep the family fed.

Oh, and I doubt he is going to be able to buy a "nice rig" with what he is theoretically saving on school lunch... even if he had a dozen kids. I'm guessing elevator guy was having a bad day.
