Why do people put their farm names on the side of their equipment? I see some guys at the elevator that have it on all their trucks. When I pass their fields and see their combines, it is plastered on the side of the combine. They have it on the back window of their service truck. What exactly are they advertising? Has anyone ever had a potential land lord come up to them at the elevator line and say "Your advertisement on the side of your truck says you are a farmer. Well it just so happens I need a renter, and by golly I couldn't find one until I saw your sign." All the fancy stenciling seems like a waste of money to me.

I understand custom harvesters coming in to an area with their decals because probably few farmers know who a certain crew really is. For farmers that do it....I question it somewhat, most farmers/landlords in an area know who is farming what if they don't know, they will ask someone. I have seen co-ops sign fields like (X co-op custom applied, or X co-op grid sampling), I have even seen a sign that said, "Case IH early risers" (something I assume with the planter). It probably wont be long before we see "Farmer X" or "Y Family Farms."

Mowing ditches looks nice and has some functionality about it, keeps the trees/weeds down every year. Landlords know who owns what and who is farming what, i personally don't see the need for the great big decals as everyone who is waving is probably flipping one finger as they travel by.
