central - east central Minnesota -

mtbrights - 9/25/2012 10:09 I'm replacing an old exterior door. The kicker is the rough in size is 38" by 86". SO, the width is standard size, but the height is over seven feet. Did there used to be a rough in size that incorporated a taller height? This is a very old door.

Don't know about the old rough (RO) in size . . . but, it's not off that much for todays STANDARD opening/doors. Today, it'd simply be furred out to make the standard rule, 2inches wider and 2½ inches higher then the door . . .. .  36 inch wide door is 38 in RO width.
The RO height would be 82½ to be 2½ taller . . . . .
So really, you are not too tall, just have to fur in the 4 inchs (which is easy, but finishing the sideing/outside looks can be more challenging) . . . . . .
