southcentral nebraska
Pro's.... consistent yields, Applied after rainy season so its still there for the plant, takes 1 third less fertililizer ,,, 140 pounds total compared to 210 pounds preplant. We use our cultivator and use 32% liquid applied 6 inches from the plant and on top the ground. Then the back sweep covers it with dirt. Fertilizer soaks down through the soil without rain , and we see the plant respond in a couple days, better if it rains it in . Fertilizer is on top of the root . Better fertilizer price available since the dealers want to use up whats left over. Con's,,,,have narrow window to apply fertilizer, Corn can get to tall for the cultivator, We have to stop and fill saddle tanks every 10 acres, I have to have a man and a truck hauling fertilizer to the field every three hours . High risk of greensnap, Chance it starts raining and we are unable to apply fertilizer. You will need more help to harvest all the extra bushels.
