Subject: Re: your experience sidedressing N on corn

SW Lower Michigan
On the sandy loam soils in my area I believe sidedressing of N to be a requirement-the more we can split the N application timing the better due to leaching. I am just a part timer but I put on 30 lbs. in my liquid starter and 100-120 lbs. SURAN at about ankle high. Many of the full timers here, most of which are seed growers, put N on through irrigation. A few are also using their Hagies, and I suppose other sprayers, to put N much later than I can with a dribbler. I would say almost 100% of the N here is put on in liquid form.
