nw NC | Question : Why not just dump from mixer wagon directly into their old chopper/blower instead of using the old conveyer? Because that is what the Amish wanted to do ?
In 1993 I was in Lancaster Co. Pa. and saw an Amish dairy farm where they had an 806 on steel wheels hooked to a Gehl forage harvester on rubber tires. Forage harvester was parked next to silo, had spout removed and silo fill pipe attached where spout used to be. Instead of a corn head, a conveyer table about 8 feet long , had been constructed and attached to feed roll throat of chopper. They used a binder in the field to cut the stalks and horses and wagons to bring the bundles to the silo. Then a guy picked up the bundles one at the time, bundle after bundle after bundle after bundle....................... This to fill a 20X50 , upwards of 400 tons. Oh my aching back !!!!!! | |
