| WE've used a bit of everything through the years. Most of our working alleys are RR ties and 2 pieces of the wide guard rail. This works good but have found that on east-west runs the sun can't hit the ground and some winters the 14' lanes have an ice problem. Lately have used some cont. pipe fence a friend makes @ $4.00 a ft. (that's last quote) and that's working really well. On our feedlot pens we have mostly 4 wire hot fence but we don't wean in these pens. A friend who developes hfrs in a custom lot has had to go to cont. pipe fence because of the wild hfrs he sometimes get's in. More visibility I guess if they should spook. A cousin in central SoDak had pipe posts for years in his feedlot but had to rip them out and go to RR ties because the pipe rusted out fast in his wet area. | |
