| My wife did a lot of studying and bought T-fal (the best version of their line of non-stick) a couple years ago. Cooks Illustrated/ America's Test Kitchen is a magazine/website that she studies religiously for reports on stuff like that, as well as recipes (Another gift suggestion).
Day after Thanskgiving sales at Kohl's are always a good deal. I think all of their cookware goes on sale. And they have a good selection. That is where we have bought cookware for ourselves and for my Mom.
I would not have the yikees to buy something like cookware for her. That is a 'here is a card good for one set of cookware' approach item. My wife studied for many months before buying.
Along the lines of other gifts- I bought my wife a 3# sledge hammer for Christmas once. She loved that thing! Very proud of it and talked about it frequently. It was a sad day when the boys broke the handle on it.
