They said it resulted in a better roof overall. I suppose any small leaks the asphalt shingles would block. They did say in higher humidity environments (NOT HERE!) to lay down strips of wood to hold the metal up and allow for air circulation. But it was optional in drier climates.
I just laid the metal down and screwed it right to the roof. No problems so far. 4-5 years?
