Subject: Thoughts from salebarn today.

Saronville NE
Went to the barn again today, didnt buy anything, they had gotten just a tick higher. Several guys I talked to are just like me, they are too high to make any money if cattle dont go up a bunch, with the price of hay, corn and distillers presently. Example a 515lb steer at $1.55 is $798.25, ok for me to get them to 850 lbs, I will have to put 335 lbs on, at a $1.25 COG that is $418.75 feed cost, so $1217 into for BE, so need $1.43 to BE, I like to make $50 min a head for a goal so $1267 so need $1.49 to be where I want to be, those kinda cattle are presently in that $1.35 area, long ways off, if feed stays high, will the cattle get back to that level again? IDK Im usually very bullish in the fall buying calves, but this year I just dont know, I really thought earlier should fill up fuller then ever before, now Im wondering if would be better to just custom feed this year, have had lots of calls since everybody is short of feed.
