I don't know about STP, but GM, Ford, Chrysler all did /do sell a heavy STP like oil additive that had a high concentration of ZDDP,. It was to be added to a new engine to help protect the cam and valve gear during break in. I used it at every oil change in my dirt track race engines. Even with very heavy racing valve springs, cam/lifter/ rocker arm wear was almost non existent with this additive. GM called it EOS (engine oil supplement) I don't remember the name used by Ford and Chrysler, but it was the same stuff.
I bet a good oil for engines with flat tappet cams could be home brewed by adding 1/2 can or more of the EOS type additive to a modern low ZDDP oil change.
