We use M fittings with 3/8 hose on ours to make it handy and compatible with everything else in the shop, but then the 3/4 isn't our big gun so we don't depend on it for the biggest stuff.  The IR 1" impact has 1/2" G fittings and 1/2" hose coupled near the compressor for when we really want to get serious. If we didn't have that then I think I'd still keep the M fittings on the 3/4 CP for most stuff and put a G fitting on it and use a 1/2" hose if the M with 3/8 hose didn't give it enough "juice" for something.
