On the VFD's, generally double the rating. The real answer is the square root of 3, which is 1.73. That is a big enough investment that you should get the blessing of the manufacturer that his product will do that job. "Oh hell yes" type of answer.
I dunno about generators. Starting inrush is the problem. Some loads start easy, some don't.
