This is a rough explanation but Led is a LCD is just lit with led bulbs instead of older style bulbs. Just like newer truck or trailer lights. Longer lasting less energy to light. Personally I like Sony or sharp. Samsung would be third choice but also good choice. Vizio has come on strong due to their close ties with Walmart/sams club and also well rated. High end Sharps "elite" line will make your wallet cry but has best reviews I have read. I am also looking at 55-65 screens.
