Yes, if the stalks stay healthy(green) you might not need anything. However I certainly would not count on that lasting all Fall. A freeze that kills everything is not good. A dry warm fall with little rain and light dews would be ideal. I recommend combining as soon as you can start even if the corn is 30+ % moisture. A early snow would make it impossible to combine. The worse thing is once the stalks are wet from rain or snow they never dry out.
Last year in our area some chopping heads had issues with down corn. Shutting off the chopping knives or removing them helped.
Do you have row guidance on your corn head and combine? It would be a no brainer to put it on if you do not.
Years ago we purchased a roll-a-cone system for down corn. Our stalks were in terrible condition so the whole plant would break off and float up on top of the cones. The beaters(rubber flaps) could not push them down to feed. It was a mess. We had to take everything off except the outside ones. They helped greatly keeping the stalks from hanging up on the outside snouts.
