I've learned the easiest way to check a motor is to disconnect it from the gear drive and simply spin the shaft. If it spins freely it most often is not the motor. Turn the gear drive while they are separated. Also look for obvious signs like burnt smell or bulet holes. Once again, disconnect power first.
