Ron- I was going to comment on the "need" for 500 hp motors to haul a tandem hopper- but thought better of it. Big diesel motors seem overly intoxicating to some and they get defensive if questioned.

We used to load hoppers from an outfit the other side of Indy. The owner always wanted no more than legal loads, but he did enjoy running a tad over the speed limit. His trucks were equipped with 300 hp Cummins with 9 speeds behind them, and he had them geared to run 80 mph. Which, according to a couple of his drivers, he encouraged if the need arose. They were pretty efficient set ups fuel wise as I recall as well.
