Callao Missouri
I really like our 6400, we have around 5000+ hrs on the clock. It has not been trouble free but has been a very good tractor, and very operator friendly. You will be impressed with the engine if you are going to do any heavy work with it. Ours will out compete our 1066 IH on a 15' brush hog most of the time. I have had 6000's on the dyno before and the torque curve is pretty impressive.
Our 6400 had a plastic splice that connects the lube tube from the manifold and distributes it to the rt final drive brake. Every 6000, and every small frame 7000 has it ours was just a fluke deal that it broke. I don't know when it broke but I do remember where I was at when the pinion shaft tried to lock up, I had to replace the ring and pinion gear set, along with re bearing the rt final drive.

One thing that will kill the power shift and reverser transmission in theses tractors is water in the hydraulic oil. Make sure you trans vent is clean and has the extension kit on it. Also change the trans oil every now and then. I have had to replace the friction disks in the powerquad of a customer 6300, it however is a very simple job to do. Also these tractors tend to run warm if you let your radiator get full. I have extra air spaces blocked off around the radiator so everything has to go threw the screen in front of it, and just pull the screen and dump it off every day when brushhoging or pushing haylage it only takes a second to do.

We have a westendorf loader on our 6400 and I would never stoop down to a Deere loader for various reasons, mainly they just don't lift high enough and are hard to take on and off. We also have the RT hand reverser control, I would not want a left hand because as you get out you could catch your pliers on the left hand control and put it in motion. My mind is made up!

Would we get a 6400 again if we know now what we new then, absolutely! I for see our 6400 being around here for a long time, if we get another it will be a 6410. I agree with the other poster that said run like mad from the 6420 I had enough of them at the dealership to never want one now. Altho I am sure most people are happy with thier 6x20 tractors. Jon
