SE IL and SW IN
I am not ready to suggest that you limber up your puckerer, but we have had serious discussions in the halls at forums such as NNTC around the simple fact that some identifying characteristics of the soil (Bluford Silt Loam, think Southern Illinois white dirt) have been changed to the point that it no longer meets the description as is stated in the NRCS soils handbook. Namely increased SOM, a deeper A horizon, and a vertical stratification of the fragipan to the point that it is not recognizable.

This is the result of 30+ years of continuous no-till with an agressive high fertility COC program with a covercrop between for 10 years. Some of these fields have never seen rain since planting, so I will take this lesson in humility from the good Lord, hopely with the grace that so many of my neighbors have exhibited.
