N FLA | Its made huge difference with resistant Palmer amaranth. Kirk had a custom cotton harvesters on the farm a few years ago and is still dealing with the aftermath. Weeds like PA cannot germinate in the shade. He has some other struggles with resistant wild poinsettia, but what I've read, shade does not reduce germination of that one. So it depends. A good rye cover would solve most of the South's PA issues. Dr. Culpepper@UGA has done some very good work with % control in heavy rye, and control with fall moldboard plow then planting rye. | |
