perryton, tx | FWIW i don't believe that having irrigation means you don't have to carry crop insurance. If you have some kind of major breakdown or weather disaster mid-season you can easily lose the crop before it gets repaired. I've seen it happen a number of times around here, whether it's a well caving in, a sprinkler wreck, a hailstorm, greensnap, or simply not enough gallonage to keep up. At that point a guy is out a crop, plus all his inputs up to that point, and whatever it costs to repair everything. Sure wouldn't want to be facing that without insurance. | |
