Alberta | As much as I like the beets, I can't even imagine the headaches that would come with 3000 acres, let alone 6000 or 10000. Labour would be the biggest problem. Workers are in very short supply here and the quality is steadily decreasing. Everybody in Alberta believes the oil patch is the only place to be.
As for the all new equipment, not a chance. Most beet equipment around here is no newer than 10 years old.
Are these bigger farms using 12 row diggers are just multiple 6 or 8 rows? 6 row is the norm here, although you still see quite a few 4 row machines. The bigger farms use 2 diggers and some have 12 row toppers.
