Can someone mathematically explain overcharging the smaller battery on a system with 2 batteries?

Also, whenever one battery goes out on a piece of equipment like a tractor or semi, everyone on here recommends replacing them both with a matched pair so the old one doesn't destroy the new one. Is there no merrit in this concept either?


I have always heard that but have never experienced it, and granddad says he has never seen it either. So it is gospel I guess. If I ruin a battery (break a post, over charge, drop it or whatever) I just change the bad battery as long as the other one is in decent shape. I have seen the older one live on and provide good service for many months or even years right beside it's younger mate.
