Subject: Re: How to keep Hudson Float Valve clean?

Faunsdale, AL
I don't know of anything that will flow as much as one of those and still shut off reliably as long as the water is clean.

Used to occasionally use a 3/4" ball and rod float valve (Bob Roberts brand) that might flow as much, but never could get them to shut off with the standard float rod and ball available at the local coop. 1/2" size works just fine and will flow a lot of water, maybe plenty for your purposes. They seem to handle grit and trash a lot better than the Hudsons. I have a couple of end of the line situations where I use the ball and float type valve because any sand and grit seems to go to those troughs instead of to others. Have seen them get packed with grit too when the well was pumping sand pretty bad, but normally they work well in spite of it.

Hudsons everywhere else.
