Subject: RE: Sunn Hemp cover crop in corn

N FLA
All the old timers planted Velvetbean in the corn, I tried some last year, but was very slow to get started, seeding rate was 36" x 36" apart. Looked more impressive than your sun hemp though. I'm scared your sun hemp just isn't contributing much there. Two years ago we planted Lablab and forage sorghum. with the twin row planter, alternating rows. Was a pretty good combination. The New Zealand dairy guys bragged all about Lablab. I think they still found something to complain about, imagine that. Agronomically, it was a great combination. I dont know how it ensiled and fed. I would bet your combination corn/hemp, would work ok with a twin row planter, plant them both at the same time. If we have a good cover crop, could get by with gramoxone + dual preemerge and not have many weeds. But I think when we plant corn (you too) its a little cool for sunn hemp.

Who did it in Georgia?
