Formerly NE North Dakota, now NW MN
I've never grown beans under pivot, but my first choice is always to spray em by ground. It's hard to get the spray through the canopy. I've used a plane a few times this year though and been happy with the results.

We injure some plants when we spray, but it doesn't seem to exacerbate our mold issues. If you stray a bit off the row it'll break branches or the main stem, but breaking open the canopy allows them to dry out. It kills the plants, but doesn't seem to make the mold worse. Under pivot however, maybe they won't dry out...

How do your beans look? What type are you growing?
