southern MN | 1988 was very dry very early. (Humm, like this year...)
So I planted oats, and kinda kept planting because it was so nice and so early.
Sorta ended up with 1/3 of the farm in oats, which is not a high paying crop. Not really the brightest move.
Well, corn & beans about failed that year from the drought here, 1/2 a crop and because of the grain reserves prices didn't really go up as they should have, so no one did well money wise.
Oats yielded well, and was the same year they found out it lowers cholesterol so the price on oats about doubled.
I did well that year, but never could say much in the neighborhood, didn't want to be poking people that were down.
