Subject: Re: Are We Planting Corn Too Thick...??

When I took over the farm in '71 I planted my corn at 24,000. At the time most around here were planting 18-21k. An older neighbor stop by one day just after my corn had come up & told me I had planted it way too thick and if it turned dry I wouldn't have anything but nubbins. I told him I planted for a good yr, not a dry one. Don't remember the yield but we had a good yr & an excellent crop.

IHboog likes to plant a little heavier than I do. I'm content with 36-38K but he likes to push it up around 40K or better on our good soils. I don't see ny reason to back the populations down for next yr unless there becomes a seed availability issue.
