The other day I saw these turkey buzzards along the road. I didn't have a camera or phone with me but my son drove by them a few minutes later and took this picture. He counted sixteen of them.

Nah. Don't worry about 'em unless they're starin' at you.

If this occurred on Fri the 13Th, your in Big Trouble.

There is a whole drawn out, complicated way to reverse the doom, but it involves whiskey and the next full moon.

Sorry, AJ

North of London
That is quite a sight.
Not sure if I am counting correctly but there may be 14-15 there.
Have seen around a dozen at one of their 'meals'.

Think turkey vultures do congregate to rest at night but that is not the usual place unless there are no trees around.
I would guess they just had a good feed and are 'digesting'.

They are a very mild mannered bird not aggressive at all.

When they soar looking for lunch they operate as an individual but they keep an eye on their neighbours and when one goes down to ground when they see a carcass the ones near them notice and join the feast. Each one going down is noticed by the ones further away and they join too. That is how you get a bunch at one carcass.

Anyway I would not worry about them, if they were going to feed on your carcass it would not matter to you by then.

What is spooky is first thing in the morning when they are lined up on the fence posts and all have their wings spread warming up in the sun.

Looks as if that picture was taken on a mountain side . Is it that hilly and steep there? How much elevation difference from top of hill to bottom in picture?

Looks like the car salesmen I always have to run off if I circle a dealers lot looking around. I refer to them as sales vultures.

Not unusual to have 30 to 40 at the quarry every day. They like to sit on the edge of the highwall and air their wings out in the mornings. In my younger days I would work along the edge loading holes to blast and they would circle overhead the whole time I was loading. I would see their shadows as I was bent down over the holes and it was always a bit spooky. They would get within 10-12 feet but you always wondered if they may do something different. They show up in March every year almost always on the same day. Ugly critters and where they roost on some of the water pipes going up the wall it looks like it has been painted white.

The picture really makes it look steep but there is probably a 50 foot drop from the top of the hill to the bottom.

I read an autobiography about a Texas Ranger a while back. He said in all his years of investigating deaths and finding dead bodies he never once saw where vultures were circling over a dead human body. That is completely different than what we are used to seeing in old Western movies.

At least they're not Black Vultures. Then you really would be in trouble, as they unlike the Turkey Buzzards, will not only go after dead things, but live things too. We had them kill one of our calves as it was being born last year.
