Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA
The description of that truck brings back memories of the chopping we did when I was a kid, in about '88-90. My first silage job was driving trucks in the field, and the adults would take them on the road to the pit. One of the trucks was a '65 Chevy that was often called "the fumigator" because it had the same through-cab exhaust system as your old '57 Chevy. I could see over the dash of the truck, but not the steering wheel, though the wheel was so big that I could see everything I needed to see in the half moon shape between the wheel and dash. We had a JD 2840 running a two row 38 chopper and another 2840 with a loader at the pit.

My dad later bought a '59 Peterbilt COE tandem and a new JD 4455. It looked like we were going to really have some silage-making capacity the next year, but the way things worked out we didn't put up any silage again until 2002, after the 4455 was traded and when the old Pete was on it's last legs.
