I would agree completely, and would be much more comfortable feeding dry stalks after harvest. Either way supplement would be required. Dry stalks could be harvested with more commonly available equipment. Too many livestock operators are becoming near panic-stricken, both about the condition of crops, and the shortage of forage. Tired of facing the challenges, they want to move forward with getting something done. While many are more optimistic about crop yields than I, the possibility of have both some corn, and collecting stalks after harvest would appear to be the better option. The only downside to waiting is the challenge of gathering stalks after harvest, but one would expect harvest to be early, and provide ample time to do so. The mention of a cold, late, wet Fall would probably not be well received right now.
Glad to see someone addressing the situation. BTW, I would agree with your time frame to see a return to any appearance of normality to the beef market, and it's on the short side. Too many other surprises could easily extend it.
