Honestly, if that reporter got the rest of his/ her facts correct, I would him/ her a pass of whether to call it "4WD" or whatever. 

To most people, if it's got a drivetrain going to the front wheels, it is "4WD"; if it doesn't have a drivetrain going to the front wheels, it's not.
