We used to run a Westfield 8x61 with a '50 straight M. No problem on h.p. (stock M). See photos below. HP wasn't a problem. Only trouble we ever had w/the M was it wouldn't start after sitting in a rainstorm. However, electronic points conversion kit took care of that. If you don't have electronic points, I'd put them in now if it were mine.
It would raise the auger OK, unless you needed full height from the auger, then the M ran out of oil. We have belly pump also. But, when we're talking 50-60 yr old hydraulics, there could be differences in the wear on them & yours might still be good, or not. I'd just back it up to the auger now & raise it up & down & see what it will do. You certainly want a manual valve on the hydraulic hose for an "uplock" if you don't already have one!! Now, keep in mind raising the auger empty may work, but forget it when the auger is loaded. Don't try to raise it loaded or you could go backwards. So, just try it & see if it will raise fully empty...now.
