Subject: NH 640 Silage Special Round Baler bearing trouble

Ontario, Canada
We've had our NH 640 baler for a while now (12 years) and it has given us very little trouble until the last few years. It has burned out the main drive bearing on the top roll 4 times in 3 years. The drive chain is tight and the bale pressure is a 1600lbs. All pretty normal specifications and conditions. We bale at about 7mph and just pick up one windrow at a time. No idea what causing this. I don't know how it can be a design flaw as it didn't happen for the first decade of operation. Just wondered if anyone else had this happen and what they did to figure it out. We keep a infrared thermometer in the cab and check it throughout the day< it was fine all day yesterday then all of the sudden started smoking. Any ideas would be appreciated

TIA
