We survived Y2K and every other "end of the world" event so far. I don't see how this is going to be any different.
Did you expect the Mayans to calculate the calendar to infinity? They had to stop somewhere. Maybe 2012 planet alignment was a good place to stop. The end will come, but I don't expect any of us to be here when it does.
