NW central IL
up here on my soils, the notill beans are behind, just like in a normal year too. the real shocker was we tiled a farm and ripped out the tile lanes to even them out last fall. the ground never got levled, (didnt plan it this way) so i just slowed down and planted through the rough ground, had beans 1"-3" deep, but did get a good rain after i planted, rest of the beans planted 2.25", just like all the rest of my fields this year. ripped beans are atleast 6" taller right to the row.....which is about in line with all my other no-till verses tilled farms.....i tell my family it takes 2-3 bu better beans to pay for our "recreational tillage" but on our flat ground, it pays almost every year. in wet springs i hear its because of the mat of trash, cold year the same, this year i learned, next year im planning on tilling most our fields to some capacity. no more excuses for no till here...
