Subject: Problem with new farm

NE IL
I'm farming a new-to-me farm on shares this year. Turns out the previous tenant neglected to repair an old clay tile that has two laterals hooked into it. The main runs parallel with a state highway under the edge of the road-apparently the road was much narrower when the tile was put in. The state won't let us dig up the road to fix it and the only other good main to hook into is 2350' away. I'm not sure my landlord will be willing to foot the bill for connecting to this other tile. I have no lease, we're related to each other. Since there is no lease it makes little sense for me to pay for any tiling. Any ideas? Aside from beating the hell out of the previous tenant? The main is completely filled with dirt, and the two laterals blow water out of the ground. The crop looks great this year because of the dry weather. I still have good potential for this year. I'm more concerned about next year and beyond.
