When Mom got a computer and went online I created a startup page for her.  It doesn't directly have news, but most of the places she goes on line are linked there.  Local elevator, area web sites, local obits, newspapers, etc.  I need to add and edit a few, but it works.  Family sites, blogs ans the like, we put on her bookmark toolbar.
