NW Minnesota
Hi,

We use grid testing here for mainly testing P & K. Those two only cost about $6.50/sample here with the lab we use. We go with the standard 2 1/2 ac/grid which works great and we take 10 probes out of that grid for 1 sample submission per grid. We only test the 0-6" and use a Wintex for grid testing. This rig has sped up testing ten-fold!! This is a great tool and we only recommend getting it retested after ~-3-5 years, but it also depends on the location and what the grower wants. It basically sets a good foundation to know how variable your ground is with nutrients.

We have found grid sampling to be HUGE with fields that have had any history of manure being spread or even with a farmstead within the area of the field. Here is an image of one of the fields we tested with grid sampling, notice the variability!
