If futures were used to forward hedge profit margins, how do you explain away the very low open interest in the nearby contracts? Seems to me much of the ethanol industry operates in the spot market both for inputs and finished goods. Ethanol plants will continue to run as long as they can cover marginal costs. The most efficient and well placed will run the hardest/longest. Imo anyway. Thanks
