Cattle guys here keep planting more and more 15" corn every year. They usually spray it across the rows and they roll the corn after planting to smooth the field. It sure closes the row fast and looks funny because the plant spacing in row is similar to the row spacing itself. They claim 15-20% more tonnage vs. 30". I guess it also depends on the year. Grain yield is about the same but sure makes "trash" :) I suppose that's the whole point.
