Subject: Re: switch for a 20hp motor

Leesburg, Ohio
We have used circuitbreakers as switches for years on smaller (5-7hp) motors, and they last a long time that way, but a 20hp is a different story. Have you priced a 70 amp three phase breaker lately? Here in the $100 to $200 range.

I have recently bought several NEMA rated (heavy duty) Square D magnetic starters on ebay for less than the price of a breaker. I'm talking less than $100 for a $500 to $1500 starter. Used, but perfect condition. Some of them are now running our new grain leg and pit. Hit ebay, do a search on NEMA size 3 starter and do the job right.
