Subject: RE: How to melt Urea (46-0-0) down to make liquid N

NE Colorado
Some years ago our local coop was making a "no burn" solution with urea for topdressing wheat. I liked using it but they no longer do it. When I wanted to make my own they told me I had to use hot water to do it.

I didn't completely understand why until I looked at the list of ingredients for a couple of cold packs I was keeping in my first aid kit in my shop: urea and water. By breaking the seal between the urea compartment and the water compartment in the cold pack, an endothermic reaction gets started and the cold pack gets cold. Then I understood why hot water was necessary.
