You are right about it getting cold. I dissolved some damp and lumpy ammonium nitrate in a barrel of water a couple of years ago just to get rid of it. The outside of the barrel frosted over on a 70 degree day. Put a thermometer in the stuff and it showed 10 degrees F. Should have made some ice cream .
