Missouri
Reason for asking age was. Developing a livestock enterprise for youth can offer so much in itself, the rewards of education out weight any profit motives. Not an issue at 23. You are correct on any smaller breed that would fit with grass feed. Tailoring an operation around a marketing plan and backing into what fits, works like picking a pair of shoes/boots. Several around here offer very good examples of excellent small nich markets that don't have to be big and or fancy. Provide excellent source of quality beef for the family and extra calves are marketed direct to customers. Comes with problems like financing family ect. Back to original statement Bulls are a pain in a small operation and take up space. Winter requirement of hay, labor and mud lead some to want a system that ends, say Nov 1st. To each his own. Ask away, scope of knowledge around is unblievable. Look at the diversity of the responses think 7 states and two countries. Good Luck.
