South Central Wisconsin
More like $250 for a 12ft. Versa table bagger that will serve a dairy of twice your size. We have a 10ft. Ag-bag - pulltype, that puts all of our feed up for 550 heifers. No problem with it at all. Bags give great quality feed. The machine will pay for itself in 5 years if you are already renting one. And the plastic costs last year were around $1.80 a ton for 10ft. bags. I don't know what bunker covers cost. But with a pile, there is a large initial investment, that is if you are putting a concrete or asphalt ad down. Also bunkers are nice, but you need the weight on the tractor to pack it. You cant't rush it. Those customs guys can put a lot of feed away fast but they have to have the equipment to pack properly because that is what the customers will see and will affect their production. With a 12ft. versa you can put away 14 ton of feed in 2 minutes.
