North Central Kansas | With only 15 acres you are limited for a cow/calf operation, but, you have very high quality pasture and the ability to irrigate. I would consider grazing calves, finishing grassfed beef, or custom grazing on a gain basis.
I think the high tensile electric is a good idea, and for only 15 acres go for 4-5 wires on the outside.
I like to step back and take inventory of what you have, access your advantages, limits, abilites and options. I am a long way from your area, so I try to make advice pretty genral. It appears that you have high quality pasture and with irrigation you have the ability to produce alot of it. You almost have a 'feedlot', the ability to put on fast gain. I would go for the electric fence, utilize a rotational grazing system, subsribe to the Stockman Grass Farmer. You have a limited amount of acres so try to be very intense with what you do. Do not let size limit what you can accoplish. Best wishes for you. | |
