Central Kansas
When I was probably 9 or 10 years old, my dad had a pull type Gleaner combine that had a electric/12 volt gadget that would raise or lower the header. Well, he sold that part off off the abandon combine after he bought his first self propelled but weather conditions forced him to bring it out of retirement so having no way to lift or lower the header, he took the wheel off an hand crank corn sheller, mounted it on the header up/down shaft and I rode and stood on the combine operators platform and if he though the header needed to be raised a little, he would give me the "thumb up" and if it needed to go down, it was "thumb down" from his seat on a "15" Caterpillar that he used during that wet harvest (Wheat)
