I have used schlagels closing wheels for awhile. They work at crushing sidewall just like they say and help reduce crust. There is a negetive though. When it is warm and dry, the top inch will dry off and dry a little to much and get close to the seed. Especially in soybean ground. Make sure you plant a little to the deep side to keep the seed in moisture and make sure you have good down pressure to keep all the seeds in the bottom of the trench. Corn comes up through the loose dirt above easily. Also , when your looking at the open trench with seed exposed, it better look deep, because the schlagels will crush the trench so it isn't planted as deeply as it appears. Do alot of digging to check seed depth, I guarantee you will need to set the depth deeper than you did with J.D. closing wheels.
