The Genesis block is every bit as heavy as the 401 block is, and could certainly be used as the frame, as it is in the 60 series.
You are right about the flywheel, as well as the fact that the Genesis block is 1/2" taller. That throws things off like the fan drive hub and rear cylinder head support.
